That was a wicked googlie?

I was reading an article in the Times Online and came across the following paragraph, which I think is referring to a cricket match.

Flintoff claimed a wicket in the first over of each of his three spells. Dangerman Gautam Gambhir was caught at third man for 14 attempting to flat-bat Flintoff over the offside, while Suresh Raina was on the receiving end of some hostile treatment from the Lancashire all-rounder before he played one on to his stumps off Stuart Broad for just one.

For the first time in my adult life, I am unable to make sense of a sentence written in English.  If you held a gun to my nads and said “tranlsate or we shoot”, I’d have to tell you to shoot.  The upside is I could then get some of these…in blue.
